Imation Receives Defense Contract For Medical Imaging Products

Oakdale, Minn. (August 26, 1996) -- Imation Enterprises Corp. (formerly 3M) has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract for medical imaging products, including its 3M™ DryView™ 8700 Laser Imager from Imation™, from the Defense Logistic Agency's Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC).

The contract calls for Imation to deliver medical imaging equipment and X-ray film to DPSC, a Defense agency which provides medical supplies, medicine, food, clothing and textiles for America's Armed Forces and other non-Defense customers worldwide. "It continues our excellent working relationship with the DPSC as we change from 3M to Imation," said Cliff Pinder, vice president, Medical Imaging and Photo Color Products, Imation.

"We are excited that the Imation™ DryView™ 8700 Laser Imager is included in the contract," added Pinder. "Since its introduction in October 1995, the Imation DryView 8700 Laser Imager has rapidly been adopted by radiology departments worldwide so that today it is by far the preferred dry 14" x 17" laser imager."

Various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces early on recognized the Imation DryView 8700 Laser Imager's ability to deliver diagnostic-quality film images without wet chemistry and its associated hassle and costs. The U.S. Navy installed an Imation DryView 8700 Laser Imager into its teleradiology system aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier. Two units also accompanied NATO peace-keeping forces to Bosnia.

"We are anxious to bring Imation DryView 8700 Laser Imaging System support to other military operations," said Pinder. "Not only does this system eliminate wet chemistry and its associated costs and environmental issues, but its small size and siting flexibility make it ideal for field deployment, mobile operations, facilities with limited space, or any radiology department needing to improve work flow and increase productivity."

Imation promises a customer first focus. A $2.3 billion company borne of 3M innovation, Imation combines core technologies of imaging and information with core values of innovation and imagination to create solutions tailored to customer needs. Imation products carry all the innovation, quality and service you've always counted on from 3M.
